4 Killer Questions

Start asking these whenever you encounter something new or when challenging a belief or idea. Ask yourself when considering your own personal ideas about God and the universe.

Remember:

2 Tim 2:24-25

And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Opponents must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth

What do you mean by that?

First, define the terms you will be using and explain what you are saying. This helps avoid miscommunication or crossed meanings when discussing any topic. Both individuals could be using the same words but in their minds mean completely different things.

Continually asking this can expose problems in the other person’s perspective. For example, “I don’t believe in God.” What do you mean when you say ‘god’? This could reveal their misconceptions about the nature of God.

Where do you get your information?

Don’t be fooled by someone sounding confident and self-assured. Many people feel confident without any basis for feeling that way. Most will say,  ”I heard it somewhere”, “Everyone says so”, “I read it somewhere”, “Did you see it on the Web / TV”, “Was it fact, or opinion”. Challenge these statements and assertions.

How do you know that’s true?

Some will say, “The Bible has changed drastically since it was written.” “People are born gay.” “We evolved from monkeys.” “We are reincarnated.” “There is only the physical universe that exists.” “god is not the god of the Bible”

Challenge pre-supposing idea and put the burden of proof back onto those making the claims. Most people aren’t aware of what they assume is true; to them there is simply no other way to see the world.   When you ask this question you help others see what they believe they believe by faith. But in what is that faith placed?

What if you’re wrong?

If you make a choice at a restaurant on what to eat. What if you make a wrong choice?

  • No big deal, your life will not be drastically altered

If you don’t believe in God. What if you’re wrong!

  • You will be separated from God forever!
